Ryde Multsport & Tennis Centre offers a comprehensive tennis program for children of all ages, from developing motor skills as young as 3, to ANZ Tennis Hot Shots, which enables them to play with greater confidence.

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots
Australia’s official kids starter program is Tennis Australia’s ANZ Hot Shots Program. It is aimed at kids from three to twelve years old.
Utilising modified courts and equipment, and different compression balls, kids are taught to learn to rally and score in match play environments that are fitting to their development needs.
Your Kids’ Hot Shots Stages
Although the actual ages are for guideline purposes, kids progress through four development stages.
- Blue Stage – Introduces players to the game – 3-5 years old.
- Red Stage – Is for tennis exploration – 5-8 years old.
- Orange Stage – For tennis development – 8-10 years old.
- Green Stage – To encourage players over 9 years old.
As the different stages come about, the compression of the ball and the court size change with the development of the players. The gradual progression increases as their skills improve and prepares the kids to eventually play with a yellow ball.
Skills Taught
At ANZ Tennis Hot Shots, kids will use and learn different equipment and techniques.
- Kids will meet new pals, stay healthy, and most of all have fun.
- They will learn through modified equipment that suits their ages and size.
- They will learn new and better skills and improve their coordination.
- Get the opportunity to participate in competitions and challenge-type events where kids get gifts for participating.
- The whole ethos of the Hot Shots Program is to learn through playing, and eventually they will progress onto a full size court and use yellow balls.
Kids Enjoyment
Traditional methods of coaching were a little staid, often, kids were waiting around in a line waiting for their turn to hit a shot. Kids get bored easily, and with no participation, their minds tend to turn to something else.
It is critical that you capture the kids’ full concentration for the duration of the lesson, and the best way to do this is through enjoyment. If the kids are having fun, they will not even notice that they are actually learning, and they are in fact in a lesson environment.
Tennis Hot Shots achieves this; the lessons are all in a game environment where the kids are fully engaged. The modified equipment also helps the youngsters to get to grips with the court, rackets, and balls.
